This is not drawing. This is also not laundry. Today was decompression time though, so laundry has been pushed to tomorrow. In the process of compiling this I realised the creative niche that vidding fills for me, which is being able to sort all my squeeful thoughts and say here are all the things I love about ____. With music attached. I always feel slightly weird about vidding since I don't approach it with any intention to learn the finer details of editing or crafting a strong visual narrative, but coming to understand why I vid makes me feel more comfortable sharing what I've made.
I also feel like all the classic and contemporary big band/crooners I've been listening to while working in the lab this semester was just preparing me to fall in love with this show. Also, OT3 much? Purr.

Guess who is done with finals, omfg.
Tomorrow I am going to celebrate by doing laundry. Which doesn't seem exciting, but I am down to the Clothes I Never Wear. Which is also a good indication of what needs to go in the donate pile.
ALSO I AM GOING TO DRAW. My god, am I going to draw. Later when I am a little less DONESQUEE, I will post some shots of my projects. I am pretty damn happy with them.Current Mood: excited

You'd think that by now I'd have gotten used to the fact that such a huge percentage of Planet Earth's human population is made up of screaming, howling idiots. It is still astonishing to me that these idiots will insist that they have a First Amendment right to be flaming assholes on Web forums, and yet also claim that people have no right not to be beaten by men with guns when entering the US from Canada.
(Again, no Yule wish list from me this year. Will someone please arrange for all of said screaming, howling idiots to be swallowed up by a black hole and have to spend the rest of eternity in each others' company? That would be the finest Yule gift I could ever receive.)

Last night I picked up pasta for dinner from the cafe around the corner, and instead of working on our finals, J and I watched 5 episodes of White Collar.
In our defense, we were both too exhausted from work to do anything productive.
Also in our defense, we are addicted.
We will be saving the last ep for /after/ finals. I... I'm probably going to need icons. :xCurrent Mood: busy

Life Between Libraries

I received training for the Civil Service Collection and I'm really excited about it. I learned how to expedite orders for exam booklets we may not have for upcoming exams. I get to check city, county, and state pending exams on a weekly basis. It'll be quite interesting when I take over the collection in January as it is highly circulating.
I've also been ordering books, weeding through my collection, maintaining displays, processing new materials, working the reference desk, and just the other day I learned how to use the book lift in the closed stacks (the hidden floors of the library, oh yes, the downtown library has hidden floors that you need an access code to enter).
---------- Dear Patrons,
When asking a reference question and then waiting for the answer, please do NOT smack your gum and proceed to snap it in your mouth over and over and over again while hanging over me. It makes me twitch and it is annoying as hell. I am not the only one who thinks as such.
Also, just because a book doesn't have the exact WORD you're looking for, there are similar words that mean the SAME thing. Really, asking three librarians and getting the same response wasn't enough of a hint?
Sincerely, Your Neighborhood Friendly Librarian
-----------
Let's see, WSE stuff is going well too. I've been weeding through nonfiction, maintaining the library facebook, and doing my usual there. I may also have a hand in developing a Disaster Management Policy and Evacuation Procedures. We shall see. While the system has those policies, our branch does not quite have the specifics for our location.
In other news, I've started to read The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. It's really quite enjoyable. Dresden is one awesome, badass wizard (who I think sometimes just needs a hug and a first aid kit permanently attached to his belt).
In other other news, the house is still being worked on. We've got tile in the bathroom and the kitchen is being worked on. Cupboards are installed and next will be the countertops, then appliances when those are ordered. We've still got a ways to go.Current Mood: busy

Help me, help me, I'm being oppressed by RP! Did you see them oppressing me?

A stickied thread on RP rules is rolling along nicely on the official forum for the Wymrest Accord server on World of Warcraft, when new guy Plagueburger blunders in to tell all the tyrannical, rude roleplayers that they're violating his rights, and he's being oppressed by the violence inherent in the system. Or something. So, he attempts to replace their rules with his own.
I don't bash/grief RPers, but I do ask them to keep it to themselves, as it is still rude, regardless of what kind of server it is.
The point, is that the policy goes too far, it suggests that any "non-fantasy" chat in channels such as party, yell, and say is punishable, which is unacceptable no matter the circumstance. I can see open bashing of RPers/etc being punishable, but for example, if I'm having a nice political/theological debate over general chat, then it should be perfectly fine. That is what GENERAL chat is for, general conversations.
Alas, he tries only one more angry post before he beats a retreat.
That's a whole lot of entitlewank there in just two posts, Mr. Plagueburger.

Sorting through old cards

Did something rather odd this evening. See, I have a cardboard shoebox full of cards. Cards and postcards people have given me; cards and postcards I bought myself from New Age and Wiccan shops and here and there just because I liked the images on them or wanted them on my altar for various reasons. Over the years, it's gotten fairly heavy. I had a cat named Thomasina for four years; when I was sitting at the altar, she'd do an elaborate routine of walking from the bed into the opened top drawer of a cabinet built into the wall (yes, I had to open it for her), onto my shoulder, and then up and into the cabinet over the vanity that I used for my altar (again, she'd demand and get the door opened for her). Then she'd climb into this box full of cards and settle down in it, because the warmth from my candles rose up into the cabinet (and because she could rely on me to be right nearby for a while, and of course she wasn't allowed to sit or sleep on the altar and demand attention there).
Years have passed, and my priorities have changed, and I want to get rid of many old things that I used to cling to. So, it occurred to me that rather than run around shopping for The Perfect Card for various people on my list at this late date, I might want to go through these old cards and see if there were some that would make good Yule cards. Plus, I could throw away cards from my dipshit stepfather and any other cards from other folks that I no longer wanted.
Tonight, I finished doing that. It was a very sad business at times -- coming upon the cards that Windrunner sent me when our love burned strong; cards from Wolfie in Australia, before he collapsed into incoherent schizophrenia. I wish I could change the past, but I can't. Perhaps I should throw them out, rather than have them hurt me every time I look at them. I don't know what I'll do with them.
I did, however, come up with a pile of cards that were potential candidates. Most are rather beautiful; some are gorgeous. I may not have to do any shopping at all. I hoarded them, but for the most part never did anything with them but have them. Maybe they'll gladden someone else for a few moments this winter.Current Mood: accomplished Current Music: Apocalyptica - Nothing Else Matters

I'm ridiculously behind on my lighting final. I'd been struggling with a specific hurdle, and I got past that this last weekend, but since I was working so hard on figuring out wtf my problem was in only that one area, I'm now behind on all the other parts. Oops. I console myself with the fact that it's not part of my major, I just wanted to know how to do it and now I do, so I'm good so long as I pass.
My modeling finals, while running into a few issues that are mostly hardware related are going fairly peachy. I'm not going to get them as polished as I'd like, but considering that I was spreading my time between four classes and work, I'm pretty damn happy with what I've come up with.
Wednesday... zomg. Wednesday and I'll be done for six weeks with mostly online classes in the upcoming semester. I might be working full time, but omg that I can handle. This semester has been one long steady crush of too much to freaking do. I'm mostly caught up on all my CSI TV at least (we shall not speak of SPN). J and I are one episode of Fringe behind, but we might be able to sit down for that tonight.
And now I have sipped at my tea and my fingers are warm and I should get back to rendering. Cue flaily arms.Current Mood: rushed
